Heat, sweat and animal attacks in Darwin.
10. Januar 2008 von thomas
Sweaty Greetings from North Australia. After 32 hours (including train, delays, shuttle busses and so on) we left the winter behind and are now in Darwin.
We had only little problems with my visitor visa on the airport, because the airline system gave me a visa for a German citizen and another one for a Polish inhabitant (I was born there). And we’ve been checked thorough by the Australian customs. Although we are so nice. (actually I wanted to give Katja some money, after seeing her hanging around like on the picture above
).
Additionally we make a stop over in Singapore, where a mop stopped us to plead for the return of their thai boy of the year, who recently returned to Germany.
And onm the flight from Singapore to Darwin we were accompanied by screaming Babies. Katja wished to be in the free nature. There a lion would soon find the screaming baby, and would make it forever quiet.
Ok, I’Il be serious now. Here are some facts about Darwin:
- Capitol of Northern Territory.
- The only place in Australia, which was attacked by Japanese forces in the WWII.
- Population about 90 thousand, with many different ethnical groups living together without ghettos.
- Important trading portal to Asia
- Frequently devastated by cyclones (in 1974 almost totally destroyed).
- Wet season and dry season instead of winter, summer, etc.
First of all its hot and humid. But despite the fact that it’s now wet season here (and the least good time to visit Darwin) we haven’t seen any rain yet. Actually we wanted to travel southwards, if it rains too much. Now we have to wait until we see some weather action. Especially after a nice local told us where the cyclone shelters are.
But the rain will come soon. Otherwise every plant wouldn’t be so luscious green her (with disrooted trees here and there). You wish to be a cow in Darwin. However, a cow with air condition.
We live in a hostel called “Wilderness lodge“. It’s not really wild but has air condition, a pool, a possum in the kitchen and sometimes a lizard in the shower. We love it here. (And can’t imagine that this facts, which influenced our decision to book this hostel, were a reason for a negative review of others). Come on, a possum in the Kitchen is a dream of everyone, isn’t it?
And I was already attacked (in the city) by one of the most dangerous birds of the world .. a pigeon. It flew against my head and pecked at my nose. I don’t know what I did the birds. But after the attacks of seagulls in Tasmania and New Zealand, this was the third bird assault. To pay it back, I bought a chicken wrapper. Delicious.
Tomorrow I’ll write about unwilling crocodile bait, strange termites and what rock holes are good for. Hang on.

Hey you.
Hopefully my Singaporean fans where not to unfriendly otherwise I’ll close down my fan club over there and then they are in trouble. Everything you wrote so far sound fantastic. Wish I could accompany you down there. Compared to the exciting live in Singapore together with all the exchangies it’s quite boring in Wuppertal…
Hope to hear a lot more of you interesting journey.
Your faithful
Gregory.

No no, they were really friendly and showed us a huge wooden fertility symbols with your head carved in the top. And what would I do to be in Wuppertal again (and to stop lying).
